What is Dental Bonding?

Dental Bonding Procedures

Do you hesitate or shy away from smiling because you are not happy with the way your teeth look? Bring back your smile and confidence! In most cases, just one appointment is all it takes, and you can have a beautiful result. Bonding is the process of using a matching tooth-colored resin/composite material to mask or reshape imperfections. It is also used to fill cavities where an amalgam (silver alloy) filling would not be aesthetically pleasing. Bonding is extremely versatile and customizable to most any need. Besides fillings, other common uses for bonding can include reshaping, filling small gaps and chips, covering discolorations or exposed tooth roots that become sensitive, and more.

The process takes just a few steps and the dentist's artistic skill. The tooth surface is prepared with an etching material, then bonding resin with shade-matched composite filling material is applied and shaped as desired. It is then cured with a special light to harden. Finally, it is smoothed and polished. The result is so natural looking!

For an alternative to bonding, the use of custom created veneers, crowns or bridges may be an alternative for strength and long term durability.
